About this idea

Your elf had too much fun in the sock drawer! They're wearing multiple mismatched socks on their arms and legs, with a pair on their head like bunny ears. Scatter more silly socks around them with a note saying 'I got sock-ed in!' Preschoolers will giggle at the elf's goofy outfit and the silly pun.

What you'll need

  • Elf doll
  • Assorted mismatched socks (at least 5 pairs)
  • Small piece of paper or card for a note
  • Pen or marker
  • Optional: small basket or bowl

How to set it up

  1. Lay the elf doll on a flat surface where it will be discovered, such as a kitchen table, bedtime area, or living room floor.
  2. Put on the elf one mismatched sock on each arm and leg, and place two more socks on its head like bunny ears.
  3. Scatter the remaining mismatched socks around the elf in a playful, messy way.
  4. Write the note saying 'I got sock-ed in!' on the small piece of paper or card, and place it nearby for the family to find.

Tips & variations

  • Use fun, colorful, or silly patterned socks to make the scene even more playful and entertaining for preschoolers.
  • For added fun, you can place a small basket or bowl nearby filled with extra socks for the kids to join in the 'sock mix-up' themselves.
  • Adjust the number of socks based on the space and the age of the children—simpler setups work well for toddlers, while older preschoolers may enjoy a more elaborate scatter.
