About this idea
The elf has gotten into the Play-Doh bin overnight and mashed every color together into one enormous, wildly swirled blob — hands buried in it up to the elbows, surrounded by flattened tubs with their lids scattered everywhere. A few squished shapes nearby suggest there was an ambitious sculpture attempt before it all went wrong.
What you'll need
- Play-Doh in multiple colors
- Play-Doh tools (like rollers or shape cutters)
- Paper towels or a baking sheet
- Scissors or a knife for cutting lids
- A small bowl or container
- Optional: food coloring for extra effect
How to set it up
- Scatter Play-Doh tubs (with lids removed) around the play area and place a large blob of mixed Play-Doh in the center of the space.
- Position small Play-Doh hands (or cut-out hand shapes) in the blob to look like the elf is buried up to the elbows in the Play-Doh.
- Arrange a few squished Play-Doh shapes nearby to suggest an ambitious sculpture attempt that went wrong, and leave a few flattened tubs and lids around the scene for added effect.
- For extra fun, you can place a small bowl nearby with a few drops of food coloring to hint at the 'catastrophe'.
- Add a playful note to your children explaining the elf’s messy Play-Doh adventure!
Tips & variations
- Use a baking sheet or paper towels under the scene to make cleanup easier — the Play-Doh can get messy!
- If you don’t have Play-Doh hands, you can cut small hand shapes from cardboard or paper and place them in the blob for a fun, creative touch.
