An elf is dramatically posed as a goalkeeper in front of a tiny goal made from pencils and tape, while a LEGO minifigure kicks a pea toward the net, with the elf looking confidently in the wrong direction.

About this idea

The elf is in full goalkeeper pose — arms wide, legs split — in front of a tiny goal made from two pencils and a strip of tape on the kitchen floor. A lineup of LEGO minifigures waits on the 'penalty spot' (a coin). One minifig is mid-kick, ball (a pea or marble) heading straight for the corner. The elf's face is aimed at the wrong corner entirely. Deadpan focus, wrong direction, perfect confidence.

What you'll need

  • Two pencils
  • Strip of tape
  • LEGO minifigures
  • Pea or small marble
  • Coin

How to set it up

  1. Place two pencils parallel to each other on the floor to form the goalposts and tape a strip of tape between them to act as the goal line.
  2. Position a coin a short distance away from the goal as the penalty spot.
  3. Arrange the LEGO minifigures in a line behind the coin, with one minifigure placed as if mid-kick, extending its leg forward.
  4. Place the pea or marble (the ball) near the minifigure’s foot, heading toward the corner of the goal.
  5. Position your elf in front of the goal, arms wide and legs split in a goalkeeper pose, facing the opposite corner from where the ball is headed, with a confident but confused expression.

Tips & variations

  • Use different colored marbles or peas to make the ‘match’ more visually interesting.
  • For added challenge, create a small net from thread or string to catch the ball if it reaches the goal.
  • If you don’t have LEGO minifigures, use small toy figures, paper cut-outs, or even drawings on sticky notes as players.
