About this idea
Your elf has created a silly puppet show using mismatched socks from the laundry! Set up a cardboard box theater with the elf as the director, surrounded by sock puppets made from family socks with googly eyes or marker faces. Add a sign saying 'Sock-tacular Show Tonight!' and scatter popcorn (or cotton balls as pretend popcorn) for the audience of stuffed animals sitting in rows.
What you'll need
- Cardboard box
- Mismatched socks
- Googly eyes or markers
- Cardstock or small paper for sign
How to set it up
- Cut a large cardboard box in half to create a small stage area and tape it upright.
- Turn each mismatched sock into a puppet by adding googly eyes or drawing faces with markers, and place them around the stage.
- Write 'Sock-tacular Show Tonight!' on cardstock or small paper, tape it to the front of the box, and scatter cotton balls or pretend popcorn in front for the 'audience.'
Tips & variations
- Let your preschoolers help draw faces on the sock puppets for a fun interactive activity.
- Use stuffed animals as the 'audience' sitting in rows facing the stage to complete the theater scene.
- For an extra touch, dim the lights and use a flashlight to 'spotlight' the stage when you tell your kids the show is about to start.
