About this idea
The elf has 'stolen' all the phone chargers in the house and created a ransom note demanding 5 acts of kindness or holiday cheer (like singing a carol, helping with dinner, or complimenting a sibling) before the chargers are returned. The elf sits with the chargers wrapped in ribbon like a present, holding a tiny ransom note. Perfect for tweens who are attached to their devices!
What you'll need
- Elf doll
- Ribbon
- Small piece of paper for ransom note
- 5 phone chargers or charging cables
- A small box or basket to hold the chargers
How to set it up
- Collect all the phone chargers or charging cables from around the house and place them inside the small box or basket.
- Wrap the box or basket with ribbon to make it look like a present.
- Write a playful ransom note on the paper, stating that the chargers will be returned after 5 acts of kindness or holiday cheer are completed.
- Place the elf doll next to the wrapped chargers, holding the ransom note either in its hand or positioned beside it.
- Position the elf and the wrapped chargers in a visible spot where family members will discover them, such as the kitchen table or living room shelf.
Tips & variations
- Adjust the number of acts of kindness depending on the age and attention span of the children involved.
- Make the acts of kindness specific and easy to accomplish, such as 'draw a picture for a family member' or 'help feed the pet.'
- For added fun, have the elf 'move' each day to a new location after an act of kindness is completed, keeping the search exciting.
