About this idea
The elf has raided the laundry basket and created a mini puppet theater using a shoebox stage. All the family's mismatched socks are turned into silly puppets with googly eyes stuck on them, and the elf is the 'director' holding a tiny paper megaphone. Leave a note: 'Your socks auditioned for my show!' Perfect for toddlers who love silliness and can play with the sock puppets afterward.
What you'll need
- Shoebox
- Mismatched socks
- Googly eyes stickers
- Paper (for megaphone)
- Glue or tape
How to set it up
- Cut out a shoebox to create a small stage with an opening in the front.
- Glue or tape googly eyes onto each sock to turn them into puppets.
- Place the sock puppets on the shoebox stage facing the opening.
- Roll up a small piece of paper into a megaphone shape and place it next to the stage as if the elf is directing.
Tips & variations
- Use fabric markers or crayons to draw funny faces on the socks if googly eyes aren’t available.
- Let your toddlers ‘audition’ the sock puppets by making silly voices and movements.
- Change the scene daily by moving the socks into new positions or adding a new prop like a tiny hat or scarf.
