About this idea

The elf set up a card-making station but colored all the Christmas cards upside-down and backwards! There are crayons scattered everywhere, and the elf left a note saying 'Oops! I forgot how to read at the North Pole!' Kids will laugh seeing Santa drawn upside-down with his beard going up instead of down, or reindeer walking on the ceiling.

What you'll need

  • Pre-cut Christmas card templates
  • Crayons or markers
  • Sticky notes or small paper for the elf's note
  • A small table or tray
  • Optional: printed upside-down Christmas illustrations

How to set it up

  1. Arrange the Christmas card templates upside down and backwards on the table or tray.
  2. Scatter crayons or markers around the cards to mimic the elf's messy workspace.
  3. Place a sticky note or small piece of paper nearby with the message: 'Oops! I forgot how to read at the North Pole!' written on it.

Tips & variations

  • For added fun, include a few printed upside-down illustrations of Santa or reindeer so kids can see what the elf 'drew'.
  • Encourage kids to try drawing or coloring their own cards upside down for a giggle-filled activity.
  • Rotate the completed cards right-side up at the end so the family can enjoy the backwards artwork!
