About this idea

The elf has been busy on a decoy phone (an old device or printed phone screenshot taped to the counter). Every contact has been renamed โ€” Mom is now 'Supreme Overlord ๐Ÿ‘‘', Dad is 'WiFi Password Keeper', and the bestie is 'Person Who Eats My Fries ๐ŸŸ'. A handwritten sticky note reads: 'Don't panic. Or do. I don't work for you.' Print a fake phone screen or prop up an old phone with renamed contacts written on paper strips.

What you'll need

  • Old phone or printed phone screenshot
  • Paper strips
  • Tape or sticky notes
  • Marker or pen
  • Sticky note

How to set it up

  1. Write new, funny names for family members on paper strips (e.g., 'Supreme Overlord ๐Ÿ‘‘', 'WiFi Password Keeper', 'Person Who Eats My Fries ๐ŸŸ').
  2. Tape the paper strips next to the corresponding contacts on the old phone screen or printed screenshot.
  3. Attach a sticky note to the phone or printout that reads: 'Don't panic. Or do. I don't work for you.'
  4. Place the decoy phone or printout in a visible spot like the kitchen counter where the family will discover it.

Tips & variations

  • Use colorful markers to make the names more eye-catching and fun for preschoolers.
  • For added humor, include a few silly contact names like 'Cookie Thief' or 'Bedtime Avoider' to spark laughter.
  • If you donโ€™t have an old phone, print a screenshot of a phone contact list and then add the funny names by hand for a similar effect.
