About this idea
The elf has knocked over the toddler's block tower and is sitting smugly on top of the rubble with tiny arms raised in victory. Scatter a handful of colorful building blocks around the elf in a blast radius, as if caught mid-chaos. Prop the elf on the biggest block with a small paper flag made from a toothpick that reads 'I WIN!' Simple, colorful, and irresistible to little ones.
What you'll need
- Colorful building blocks
- Elf doll
- Toothpick
- Small piece of paper
- Marker (optional)
How to set it up
- Scatter a handful of colorful building blocks around the play area to create a 'blast radius.'
- Place the elf doll on top of the largest block in the pile of scattered blocks.
- Fold a small piece of paper into a flag shape and write 'I WIN!' on it (or have a child do it).
- Insert the toothpick through the paper flag and prop it up on the elf's head to look like a victory pose.
Tips & variations
- Use large, easy-to-grip blocks for preschoolers to encourage them to rebuild the tower themselves.
- For added fun, let the children try to rebuild the block tower and then knock it down again with the elf's help.
- Change the flag message to 'Try Again!' or 'Challenge Me!' to encourage persistence and resilience.
