About this idea
Your elf has set up an epic karaoke battle arena using a hairbrush microphone, smartphone/tablet displaying a fake 'Elf Idol' competition bracket, LED string lights as stage lighting, and stuffed animals as the judging panel holding up score cards (made from index cards). Bonus: Leave a note challenging your tween to a family karaoke night with song suggestions written in the elf's handwriting. The elf is mid-performance on a book stack stage.
What you'll need
- Hairbrush (to serve as a microphone)
- Smartphone or tablet (to display a fake 'Elf Idol' competition bracket)
- LED string lights
- Stuffed animals (to act as judges)
- Index cards (for score cards)
How to set it up
- Arrange LED string lights around a small area to create a 'stage' atmosphere.
- Prop up your elf on a stack of books in the center of the stage and attach the hairbrush microphone to the elf's hand.
- Display a printed or drawn 'Elf Idol' competition bracket on the smartphone or tablet and place it where it can be easily seen.
- Position stuffed animals around the stage as judges and give each one an index card to hold as a score card.
Tips & variations
- For added fun, write a note in the elf's handwriting challenging your family to a karaoke night and include a few song suggestions.
- If you don't have a hairbrush microphone, you can use any small object like a pencil or a toy microphone.
- Encourage your preschoolers to join in the fun by letting them hold score cards too and act as additional judges.
