About this idea

The elf stands on the kitchen counter in front of a stack of marshmallows, with one hand posed in a karate chop position and several marshmallows scattered around showing evidence of being chopped in half.

What you'll need

  • Marshmallows
  • Kitchen counter or flat surface
  • Small toy elf
  • Small plate or tray
  • Optional: small karate belt or ribbon

How to set it up

  1. Place a small plate or tray on the kitchen counter and arrange a stack of marshmallows neatly on it.
  2. Position your elf next to the marshmallows and pose it with one hand raised in a karate chop position.
  3. Scatter a few halved marshmallows around the counter to look like evidence of karate training.

Tips & variations

  • Use larger marshmallows for easier ‘karate chopping’ effects, or break smaller ones in half yourself for added detail.
  • Add a tiny karate belt or ribbon near the elf for extra theme fun.
  • This activity can spark conversation about motion and actions, perfect for preschool learning.
