About this idea
Your elf has set up an extreme engineering challenge using Oreos! Stack them vertically to build the tallest free-standing tower possible. The elf leaves a measuring tape, a note with the current 'North Pole Record' (12 cookies high), and challenges your tween to beat it. Bonus: use toothpicks as support beams for advanced architecture. Winner gets to eat their creation!
What you'll need
- Oreos
- Toothpicks
- Measuring tape
- Note card
- Marker
How to set it up
- Place a single Oreo on a flat surface as the base of the tower.
- Use toothpicks to create support beams around the Oreo to help stabilize the structure.
- Stack additional Oreos vertically on top of the base, carefully balancing each cookie to maintain the tower’s stability.
- Write a note with the 'North Pole Record' (12 cookies high) and place it next to the measuring tape for comparison.
Tips & variations
- For younger children, skip the toothpicks and focus on balancing the Oreos for a simpler challenge.
- Encourage kids to experiment with different stacking techniques, like staggering layers, to improve stability.
- Make it a family event by having everyone take turns adding to the tower and measuring its height together.
