A playful elf stands behind a makeshift DJ booth made from two stacked energy drink cans, wearing aluminum foil sunglasses, with glow sticks scattered on the counter and toy figures dancing in front under a black backdrop decorated with silver stars.

About this idea

The elf stands behind a makeshift DJ booth on the kitchen counter, wearing aluminum foil sunglasses and positioned between two stacked energy drink cans serving as speakers. A portable speaker or phone plays electronic music while glow sticks are scattered across the counter. Black construction paper with silver star stickers creates a nightclub backdrop, and several toy figures or other small elves are arranged as the "crowd" dancing in front of the DJ booth with their arms raised.

What you'll need

  • Aluminum foil
  • Two energy drink cans (empty)
  • Portable speaker or phone
  • Glow sticks
  • Black construction paper and silver star stickers
  • Small toy figures or additional small elves

How to set it up

  1. Cut and shape aluminum foil into sunglasses for the elf and place them on the elf's face. Stack the two empty energy drink cans upright to serve as 'speakers' and place the elf standing behind them on the kitchen counter to create the DJ booth. Set up the portable speaker or phone next to the elf and queue up some fun, kid-friendly electronic music to play. Cut out a rectangle of black construction paper and stick silver star stickers all over it to create a nightclub backdrop, then hang or lean it behind the DJ booth. Scatter glow sticks across the counter and arrange small toy figures or additional elves in front of the DJ booth with their arms raised to create a dancing crowd.

Tips & variations

  • Use kid-safe, non-toxic glow sticks and ensure all small parts are out of reach of very young children to avoid choking hazards. For extra fun, let your preschoolers help arrange the 'crowd' and decorate the backdrop with the star stickers. If you don't have energy drink cans, use any two empty cans or containers of similar size to create the speaker effect.
