About this idea

The elf sits in the middle of a baking sheet covered with flour, wearing paper clip ice skates on its feet. Small toy figures are scattered around the makeshift rink, and tiny footprint trails zigzag through the white powder.

What you'll need

  • Baking sheet
  • Flour
  • Paper clips
  • Small toy figures
  • Cotton balls (optional)

How to set it up

  1. Spread flour evenly over the baking sheet to create a smooth, snowy surface.
  2. Place the elf doll in the center of the flour-covered sheet and attach paper clips to its feet as ice skates.
  3. Scatter small toy figures around the sheet to act as other skaters and use cotton balls to create tiny footprint trails leading away from the elf.

Tips & variations

  • For added realism, sprinkle a few drops of water over the flour to give it a frosty texture—just be sure to let it dry before cleanup!
  • If your elf is too big for the baking sheet, use a larger tray or even a clean section of your kitchen floor.
  • Let your preschoolers help make footprints by using their fingers or small toy animals to create fun trails through the flour.
