About this idea
The elf has raided the toddler's sock drawer overnight and tossed every single sock across the room — striped ones on the lampshade, polka-dot ones dangling from a doorknob, a tiny pair draped over the elf's own head like a hat. A small handwritten note nearby reads 'I just wanted to find the matching ones!' All you need are socks from the drawer and 5 minutes.
What you'll need
- Assorted toddler socks (at least 5 pairs)
- A small handwritten note card
- A lampshade or small lamp
- A doorknob or similar handle
- The elf doll
How to set it up
- Place the elf doll in a central spot in the room where it’s visible, like on a bed or table.
- Scatter the toddler’s socks around the room — place striped socks on top of the lampshade, hang a pair of polka-dot socks from the doorknob, and drape a tiny pair over the elf’s head like a hat.
- Write a small note on a card that says, “I just wanted to find the matching ones!” and place it near the elf.
Tips & variations
- Use different colored or patterned socks to make the scene more visually fun and engaging for toddlers.
- For a quieter version, collect the socks in a basket nearby and let your child help 'find the matches' together in the morning.
- If you don’t have a lampshade, try placing socks on the edge of a shelf or the back of a chair.
