About this idea

The elf has 'arrested' all the stuffed animals overnight and locked them in a makeshift jail โ€” a laundry basket wrapped in strips of toilet paper as 'bars'. A tiny crayon-written sign on the basket reads 'JAIL โ€” Too Fluffy & Suspicious'. The elf stands guard nearby holding a ruler as a pretend baton. Kids must 'free' each animal one by one.

What you'll need

  • Laundry basket
  • Toilet paper roll
  • Crayon
  • Stuffed animals
  • Ruler

How to set it up

  1. Unroll a toilet paper roll and wrap thin strips around the laundry basket to create 'bars'.
  2. Write 'JAIL โ€” Too Fluffy & Suspicious' on a small piece of paper with a crayon and tape it to the front of the basket.
  3. Place several stuffed animals inside the basket and position your elf figure next to the basket holding a ruler like a guard.
  4. Scatter a few more stuffed animals around the room as 'escaped' prisoners for extra fun.

Tips & variations

  • Use thin strips of toilet paper for easier tearing โ€” thicker strips may frustrate younger children.
  • Let each child 'arrest' a stuffed animal and lock it in the jail as part of the game for added role-play.
  • For extra challenge, hide the escapee animals around the house or yard.
